PERSEPHONE
STATEMENT
In May 1989, I exhibited the PERSEPHONE installation exhibit at the RHODE
ISLAND SCHOOL OF DESIGN'S Red Eye Gallery in Providence for my Master of Fine
Arts thesis. I created this series to make an evocative visualization of the
Persephone narrative, a rich and resonant Greek myth about regeneration and
renewal. These montaged images merge visually to create an otherworldly vision
as well as a thematic and narrative juxtaposition. For this work I received
a 1991 Illinois Arts Council Grant and a 1992 Fulbright award.
